Comparison of the 3 Betty Boop Slots. For an original game, Betty Boop Love Meter really set the bar for this series with its interesting meter concept and nine different bonus rounds. This is one case where the original in a series is worth playing just as much as the later games. I tried 2 slot machines for the first time Betty Boop and Crystal Forest! Got some bonuses and a Wheel spin for a really fun session! One of the most popular cartoon characters from the twentieth century, Betty Boop, has been brought back to life by Bally Technologies in the form of slot machines. Yes, there are two slot games based on the cheerful animated personage – Love Meter and Fortune Teller. The common features in both games are clearly evident as soon as the games. Betty Boop's Love Meter (by Bally Technologies) is a very interesting slot machine game and has become one of my favorite slot machine games to play in casinos. This is a progressive slot machine with nine different bonus rounds including three progressive jackpots.

Check out the video below for a better idea.
Looks cool, right? Ever wonder what goes into creating something like this? Dude must pretty much be a genius. Check out our interview with the man responsible for the existence of Betty Boop’s Fortune teller, Gary Gonzales, below.
TAC: How did you get into this profession?
Gary Gonzales: I feel fortunate to have been a creative professional for over 20 years now, designing for print and video. After 10 years in the video game industry, I was lucky enough to learn about Bally Technologies and video slot game design. I eagerly pursued a job position here, and am now working on my 5th year as a Graphic Artist.
TAC: What do you like most about your job?
Gary Gonzales: I think for me, it’s the opportunity to design these amazing fantasy environments. Creating game assets allows me to travel from the folds of Sherwood Forest, to a southwest mesa plateau, to the French Riviera, usually all in one week. I really love designing for the gambling community!
TAC: If you had to put the invention of a video slot machine game into steps what would they be?
Gary Gonzales: We start with a verbal idea session. When we have a concept we like, we generally do a lot of visual research to flesh out the look and feel. Then we create mockups of the key screens, pitch the idea and if product management likes it, we move into full production. Several full iterations go into each graphic package and we refine all the graphics and animations to make sure the experience is exactly how we want the player to experience it.
TAC: What was the inspiration behind Betty Boop’s Fortune Teller?
Gary Gonzales: We wanted to combine the popularity of Betty Boop with a wonderful theme that would resonate with our players. Whether it’s Healing Crystals, or a Tarot Card Reading or your favorite Zodiac Sign, fortune telling holds a positive energy for many slot players. So, we set out to create a magical world where all your favorite astrological and mystical themes come together in an entirely new Betty Boop adventure.
TAC: Why do you think Betty Boop’s Fortune Teller will resonate with slot players?
Gary Gonzales: Betty is one the most popular pop culture icons of our time. She continues to endure and to speak to fans young and old. With this game, players are given the opportunity to see her in a different light, possibly living out one of her own fantasies as a Fortune Teller!
TAC: What specific research did you have to do on Betty Boop to bring this particular game to fruition?
Gary Gonzales: We knew from the beginning that the look and feel of the game had to convey a sense of the mystical. The Art Nouveau style has always been of favorite of mine and we felt that its organic line movements coupled with a dream-like color palette of blues, silvers and golds would make a wonderful stage for our Betty game.

TAC: What about palm and tarot reading?
Gary Gonzales: With Palm and Tarot reading, we wanted to make sure that the player was physically interacting with these bonuses. It’s important to us that the player feels involved in their gaming experience, not just watching it roll by. For Tarot, we came up with five card designs, replacing those original card characters with new versions of Betty. The player can choose cards on the screen and either move up to the next level, or win certain pay amounts. It’s my favorite bonus in the game! With Palm Reading, we designed an interface for our iDeck that allows the player to place their hands on the input screen and have Betty read your lines. She delivers each reading with her own unique pizzazz!
TAC: What other kinds of slot games have you created during your career and which one are you most proud of?
Gary Gonzales: As an artist, you put a little bit of yourself into each game. So when they get released, you sort of become this ‘proud papa’. I love all of my games, but some of my favorites are Havana Cubana, for its rich textures, symbol designs and wonderful Cuban theme, and Spirit, for its embodiment of the beauty of the Southwest Indians and their bonds with the different horse breeds native to America. The illustrations of each horse are particularly special to me. I spent a lot of time researching and making sure I was representing these animals accurately for our players.
TAC: What’s something about inventing a video slot machine game that people would be surprised to know?
Gary Gonzales: For me, it was the level of detail that goes into insuring that your symbol set’s hierarchy is working effectively. If the symbols in your game don’t communicate their values clearly, then the player loses interest or gets lost very quickly. Even though the symbols usually are the smallest pieces of art on the screen, ultimately they are the most important. If the symbols don’t jive, then the rest of the design doesn’t even matter.
TAC: What kind of game would you love to create that you haven’t created yet?

Gary Gonzales: I would love to make a ‘just married’ Bride and Groom game with a ‘his & hers’ reel set. I’ve also been playing around with a chess-themed idea and a dinosaur hunter idea as well.
