A Roanoke Rapids man was charged with common law robbery after city police say he took money won by a patron at a gaming establishment Sunday night.
Roanoke Rapids Chief Bobby Martin said the money was recovered.

The robbery, in which no weapon was shown, occurred shortly before 7:30 p.m., Martin said in a statement.
Officer B. Council and Gaston police Chief Corey Dixon were in the area of Klix Internet Cafe on Premier Boulevard when a call that one of the patrons was being robbed went out.
A man later identified as Marckeist Johnson, 21, reportedly approached the victim after the victim won money on a machine and grabbed the winnings.

Dixon saw Johnson running across the parking lot and through the woods to Meadow Brook Trailer Park. He was apprehended by Council and Dixon near James Court.
Johnson was carried before a magistrate where he was charged with common law robbery. He received a $5,000 bond with a September 4 court date.
There were no injuries, Martin said in the statement.
